Portal: An interactive installation
The Fillmore, Philadelphia, May 15th, 2022
3 Screens, 3 projectors, 3 Kinect sensors, and 3 CPUs Integrated, to make an immersive experience.
This project was done by my team of 4 at UPenn.
This project was done in collaboration with the Mendelssohn Chorous of Philadelphia, for their musical performance titled ‘Beyond The Binary’ and our UPenn advanced mechatronics class.
People meet their digital reflection . . . and get spirited away
This installation was added at the entrance foyer of the Filmore (concert hall).
Three Kinect 2 sensors detecting live pose of people on the other side
Behind the Scenes:
Debugging last few bugs and setting up for the show behind the screen
One of the three projectors
The screen was 24’X 7’ in size and was actually three independent 8’x7’ systems. The Kinect sensors track human movements in front of the screen which is processed backstage and an animated silhouette is projected back on the screen.
The human form slowly dissolves and all that remains is a pulsating core which is assimilated into a larger orb called the collective. I want to thank our course instructor Prof. Mark Yim for guiding us with this work and the opportunity.
